City Information

Laid out in the late 19th century by the Maharani of Maharaja Takhat Singh of Jodhpur, and nestling at the base of the Aravali hills. Its mango orchards provide a cool and peaceful retreat for Tourists visiting the famous Jain temples at the Ranakpur. This also provides a convenient break in the surface journey between Udaipur and Jodhpur/Mount Abu, being almost halfway, between these destinations. In a quiet picturesque glen on the western slopes of the Aravali hills, the Ranakpur Jain Temples are one of the five main shrines of the Jain Sect. Over 500 years old, the temples have been preserved in near perfect condition. The 27 halls of temples contain 1444 pillars of which no two are alike, each distinctly carved in white marble and profusely decorated. The main sanctuary has a total of 80 domes supported by 420 columns.
