About Hotel The Marari Beach

Mararikulam is sixty kilometers south of Cochin or an hour's drive from Cochin and even less from Alleppey. It is the most fabulous stretch of soft sandy beach fringed with palm. The beautiful, seemingly endless, fine golden sandy beaches are temptation enough, but add this to a good choice of accommodation, fantastic cuisine and friendly locals, and you have an irresistible combination.

Set in 30 acres of beautifully maintained rambling gardens offering hundreds of coconut palms inter-spread with mango, jack and other exotic tropical fruit trees leading down to the vast expanse of Marari Beach. Marari originates from "Mararikulam", one of the local fishing villages, where life still goes on much as it did a hundred years ago. Marari offers endless miles of superb sand beaches backed by swaying palms, virgin territory where you can experience the local charm and traditional Keralan hospitality at it's best.

Amongst the many things that you can do at Mararikulum are cruises on the backwaters nearby and visits to traditional coir-making units etc. In a superb tranquil location the Marari Beach resort offers excellent facilities, comfortable accommodation and a standard of service second to none. In a superb location set in 25 acres of coconut palm groves leading down to the vast expanse of beach. Marari offers endless miles of superb sand beaches backed by swaying palms, virgin territory where you can experience the local charm and traditional Keralan hospitality at it's best. Until now Marari has been one of India's best kept secrets

Hotel Specifications

Accommodation

The rooms have been built in the style of a traditional fishing village with thatched villas. The 400 sq. ft. spacious villas are all air-conditioned and a delightfully furnished verandah with ceiling fan, the bathrooms are spacious and modern, built in traditional Keralan style with an open-air courtyard, complete with a papaya tree! Each villa also has a small private garden area. There is also a deluxe villa, which has the same facilities plus a separate sitting area and its own private swimming pool.

Rambling walls curve around corners, their rust-coloured stones smothered with trumpet flowers. Completing the picture are rippling lotus ponds, usually with a family of ducklings getting a swimming lesson out in the middle.

Dining

Mealtimes at Marari are unhurried affairs, with a firm eye on enjoying every subtlety that the waves have to offer.

Both at the buffet and at our speciality seafood restaurant, Fort Cochin, the fresh catch of the day forms the centrepiece. You can choose from a variety of prawns, lobsters, crayfish and the famous 'karimeen', grilled on the spot or prepared to your tastes. Complementing it all is an array of Kerala specialties. Aromatic vegetable stews, spicy chicken gravies, tangy tamarind and kokam chutneys and always, rice and the popular idiappams- string hoppers that accompany most Kerala meals.

Chef Narayankutty can be fanatical about freshness (check out his book of recipes, available at the gift shop) but he gets it easily. Our bread is always baked daily on the premises and the vegetables too, come fresh-plucked from our organic farm.

For light snacks, the beach-shack bar and buffet is the place. Sip a post-swim cooler, munch on some fried prawns and listen to the distant roar of surf.
