City Information

Tiruchirappalli - popularly known as Trichy or Tiruchi, is situated in central Tamil Nadu, on the banks of the river Cauvery. It is an interesting blend of history, pilgrimage and commercial activity. The city has many years of history and tradition attached to it. It was the citadel of the Pandyas, Cholas and the Nayakas. Since the late 19th century, Tiruchirappalli has been an important centre, manufacturing bidis and costume jewellery.

The most famous landmark at Tiruchirappalli is a 83m high rock, which is the only outcrop in the otherwise flat land of the city. The most amazing fact about the rock is that it is one of the oldest in the world-approximately 3,800 years, which makes it as old as the rocks of Greenland and older than the Himalayas.

Dotted with temples and churches along with scenic spots, Tiruchirappalli is an ideal getaway.
