Shimla is spread over a long crescent-shaped ridge at an altitude of 2130 m connecting five different hill peaks, namely, Jakhu, Prospect Hill, Observatory Hill, Elysium Hill and Summer Hill. Shimla derives its name from the local goddess, Shyamala Devi'. The city also prides in being the erstwhile summer capital of the British.
