Danish Admiral, Ove Gedde came to India with two ships as a messenger of the Dutch king to the court of the Nayaks of Tanjore. The king received him with full graciousness and gave him the territory of Tarangambadi. The Dutch established the Dansborg, the Fort of Tarangambadi here to setup the base for export of pepper to Denmark. Tarangambadi was corrupted to Tranquebar by the Danish. The two restored buildings are opened up as the heritage hotel, which reminds of Danish crew that came to India in the 17th century AD.
