About Hotel Nor Khill

Nor-Khill, the heritage hotel of Gangtok in the Himalayas, known for its traditions, unchanged characteristics and ethnic Sikkimese ambiance. You are welcome as royal guests at Nor-Khill or in Sikkimese, the abode of jewels.

What is now the Kanchan Garden used to be a favourite vantage point of the Chogyal of Sikkim. The panoramic view of the lush green hills dotted by picturesque settlements, with the Kanchenjunga reaching for the skies in the backgrond, inspired him to sit up with a canvas set up on an easel and paint for hours.

Nor-Khill translates to the 'house of jewels'. Jewels, in this beautiful part of the world do not mean the literal 'precious stones', rather the connotation is far wider and more precious, encompassing the gifts of Nature - the mountains and valleys, the flowers and fruits. This house of jewels was built by the King of Sikkim in 1932 as a guest in which he received and entertained Heads of State and dignitaries. Today, the 4800 sq. ft. Function room is the imposing lobby of the best hotel in Gangtok. The heritage building still plays host to all-important visitors to the capital of Sikkim. From the Dalai Lama and the US Ambassador to India, to Union Ministers and movie stars, to you and your family, each and every guest at Nor-Khill is a VIP.

The imposing lobby is resplendent in the bright and bold colours of the folk art that adorn its walls. From the lucky design motifs depicting dragons and flame symbols, to the thanks or wall hangings, the ornate bachu and chocsue, or center and side tables, the regal look of the yesteryears have been proudly preserved. An in-house curio shop sells traditional artifacts and jewellery. Come, indulge yourself to the best Sikkim has to offer. Grace the Nor-Khill.
